Happy Monday! Can y'all believe Thursday is the start of 2015?? I still think 2010 was last year! I love New Years though...it's like your subconscious automatically wants to change for the better, no matter how hard you try not to. I also really love NYE for all the sparkles. Whatever may seem over the top or crazy on any other day is under dressed.

When I saw this top I instantly fell in love. A local vintage store was selling it for less than $50 so I obviously had to have it! The neckline makes it, but there's nothing I don't love about it. It fits like a glove and the corset bottom smooths everything out. I paired it over a black skirt so none of the details would be lost, but it looks just as good tucked in or with black skinny jeans.

I hope everyone has a great NYE!

I'm completely in love with this skirt. I know everyone and their mom has already posted, bought and worn it, but I still love it. I got mine early last fall when this blog was still just a thought, but I love it so much that I still had to feature it.

The clutch is part of the 3 in 1 bag I featured a couple weeks ago for a

travel look

. The bag it came with is reversible, and features this inside pocket plus a pouch for smaller essentials. The fact that I can reverse the big bag sold me enough, but this inner "clutch" was the icing on top.

I hope everyone has a great week!

healthier chocolate pecan pie

How good does this chocolate pecan pie look?! I always like to find substitutes to make recipes healthier, so I was pumped to find this recipe made with medjool dates! I ended up altering it a little bit, so I'll include my recipe and the original below!

RECIPE:

1 pie crust

1 cup medjool dates

1 stick salted butter

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1/3 cup maple syrup

1/3 cup light corn syrup

1/2 tsp vanilla

4 eggs

3/4 cup pecans

1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350*. Place the pie crust into a pie plate and set aside. Mix the butter, sugar, syrups, vanilla and eggs in a bowl {the butter should be softened or even slightly melted}. Cut the pits out of the dates, and then grind them in a food processor until they become a paste. Spread the dates onto the pie crust, and then layer the pecans and chocolate chips over it. Pour the filling over the crust. Sprinkle extra pecans and chocolate chips on top. Bake for about 40 minutes or until golden.

*If I were making this again, I would try 1/4 cup light corn syrup and 3 eggs.*

holiday gift guide: for him

for the prepster: t-shirt || croakies || fleece
for the traveler: bag || watch || iPad
for the techie: speaker || GoPro || photo printer
for the athlete: golf bag || gift card || shoes

As hard as it always is to find my mom a gift, it's always 10x harder to find one for my dad. I feel like it's always the same constant repeat of gifts- clothes, golf, grill, clothes, golf, grill...To break out of that rut, I put together some gifts for a variety of personalities. I hope this helps a little bit for all of y'all that struggle as much as I do!
...
for the prepster:

I'm obsessed with preppy style for guys. Not many guys are into styling an outfit, so a preppy t-shirt like this one and some Sperrys, and you're done!

for the traveler:
Traveling is my absolute fav but always super hectic! First, they limit how heavy your bag can be, which so does not work when I'm trying to avoid looking like a hot mess. Then there's the 4 oz limit, which can be so frustrating. Some airports even take away products less than that, which totally doesn't make sense. There's always some kind of delay, whether the plane's late coming in, or (the absolute worst) when you have to sit on the tarmac for hours. Car rides are fun, but I can only last so long before I'm bored. An iPad is the perfect solution! It doesn't take up too much space, can be used with or without wifi, and is endless entertainment. The best for on the go!

for the techie:
Going with the polaroid theme from my gift guide for her, Urban Outfitters sells a printer which prints polaroid pictures minus the camera. You can print pictures wirelessly from your phone and they come out looking like a Polaroid!

for the athlete:
My brother is an athlete so it's always been easiest for me to find him something. Shoes are basically always on the list, so that makes it super easy! But apparently red soles aren't the type of shoes he likes, so I always have to send him tons of different colors and style until there's one he actually likes!

If you missed the gift guide for her, make sure and check it out here.

holiday gift guide: for her

last minute gift: heifer || sephora gift card || movie
the traveler: headphones || notebook || travalo
girl on the go: keychain wallet || polaroid
fashionista: vest || necklace || crossbody bag

Sometimes the hardest part of the holidays is finding the perfect gift for someone. Then there are always those people that have everything. Literally everything. I've put together some of my favorite picks that would make perfect gifts.
...
the last minute gift:
Heifer is a charity organization that gives resources to poverty stricken countries. For example, a family in India might need a cow to be able to make an income. Well in order to get the cow, they need the money to buy it. That's where Heifer comes in. You can either donate a whole animal, well, crop, whatever... or you can donate part of it. So if you only wanted to spend $20 dollars on a gift, you could contribute to part of something that someone really needs! Seriously perfect...

the traveler:
I've been eyeing these headphones for over a year now, so when I saw them on sale for 50% off, I couldn't pass that up!

the girl on the go:
When I was younger, my mom would take my brother and me to take pictures with Santa and the Easter Bunny. We would get the coolest Polaroid picture that always made its way onto the fridge. I'm so so glad they're coming back because they are honestly so cool- like who wouldn't want an instant printed picture?!

the fashionista:
A good statement necklace can be one of the best pieces in a wardrobe. I love this one and it goes with everything!

Hopefully this helps a little bit for all of your holiday shopping!
